The Empty Bowls Project 2016 Day 1

Today, my Mom and I made our way down to downtown Shelton's Civic Center where we and an impressive amount of members from the community took part in an activity which proceeds will benefit the Saint's Pantry Food Bank.

How it works?

A free activity to participate in, we all chose a slab of clay which we used our hands, design stencils, paper clips, toothpicks and containers of water to create a bowl (or two, or three) and we set them to dry for a week.

Next week we will glaze the dried bowls and they will be fired in a kiln by a very kind local artists by the name of Glenhelen Smither.

Two weeks from today we will donate $10 to be able to keep (or donate) our bowls and enjoy a cup of soup with some nice bread provided by several of the towns local restaurants which include Sisters Restaurant (who's wild berry and rhubarb pie is to die for), Xinh's, The Strip Steakhouse and the Olympic Bakery and Deli.

What a treat!

Listening over a conversation by some lovely ladies who sat next to us, I overheard one of them say to some sort that clay has a life of it's own, and art shows us that sometimes things don't always go as planned but you learn to work with what you've got. I couldn't agree more :) What a wise and thoughtful little town.
